It is an interesting discovery. Amazon is an amazing place with rich natural resources. Recently scientists discovered a fungi that can erode and consume polyurethane. Polyutherane is one of the most polluting synthetic product worldwide, once it is produced, the material can´t be biodegradable. This plastic is common used in everyday life, from garden hose to bus seats. The main advantage of this material, is obviously cheap, although it is nasty environmental. Pestalotiopsis microspora discovery was wonderful. They found a fungi that ate plastics, it was an accidental discovery, by an expedition to Amazon of scientists from Yale University. Scientists were in the Ecuadorian forest looking for
plants, and farming microorganisms inside. They observed that Pestalotiopsis microspora can consume plastic, but it is amazing that this fungus can survive with a plastic diet in a non-oxygen atmosphere, it is the type of conditions that we can see in the garbage dump. Source: Ecoosfera
