Residuos tóxicos de Portman resultan interesantes como futuro recurso

Portman was a natural port since roman age for sending materials. During several years it was for mineral garbage dump, until they fill bay up with all the weight metals. Minerals went down deep to the ocean, and it supposed a serious problem for the Government. Now it seems to have a solution. Iron waste is attractive for Chinese market. This Project consists on sweeping for cove and then they can rescue the existing iron. Time along, the spilt take 12 kilometer up, 4 of them are of iron. Now mineral prices have raise. Although, extraction investment lies in 250 millions of euro in eight years, but it won ´t suppose any cost for contributors. They are going to sell iron into Asiatic market, they are going to use sand for regenerating the beach, and the rest of the weight metal are going to settle in the previous mines. Developing this plan will bring us approximately 300 jobs. Francisco Bernabé, major of La Union town, expresses his optimism is this project that pretends healing mining damage, and he points at mineral technical fitting for this type of markets. Administrations accelerate necessary bureaucracy for developing the Project. On the one hand, Murcia Government, declares the deposit as non-natural origin. And Environmental Minister has already prepared the public bidding conditions that allow companies aim for extraction. Chinese and Hindu market are demanding row materials, so this kind of strip mining become worthy. On the other hand, neighbors mistrust because of previous bad experience. Also bay solution has been used by politicians as a voting discuss. Private sector makes possible the project but also requires permission for more extraction quantity of waste that was expected. People that live in the area and ecological groups have a lack of faith. They don ´t think that the companies and the minister can get the bay regeneration, as they promised, that is as bay was in 1957. Furthermore, Director in charge of beach insists that is impossible companies give the project up. Source: El País
